Google Chrome is the most popular web browser worldwide, with over 60 percent of all internet users choosing it as their primary browser. However, if your Chrome feels slower than usual, you can take easy steps to remediate the issues. Here’s how to speed up Google Chrome.
Close Unused Tabs
Each tab consumes processing power, meaning your browser (and computer!) will slow down if you have too many open. When you’ve finished using a tab, be sure to close it to free up Chrome’s workload.
Clear Browsing Data
Your browsing data stores your browsing history, caches of pages, cookies, and other information. If you find that Chrome is running slowly, you can try clearing your browsing data to free up some processing power.
To clear your browsing data, click on the three dots in the top-right corner. Then, hover over More tools > Clear browsing data. You can choose to delete data from the past hour, day, week, month, or all data. For maximum effect, clear all data. You can also choose what types of data to clear. Once you’re satisfied, press Clear data.
Delete Extensions
Browser extensions add increased functionality, but they can also slow down your browsing experience. If your Google Chrome is running slowly, you can try disabling or deleting extensions.
Some extensions may actually hinder your browsing experience by slowing down Chrome. You may want to go through and disable your extensions one by one to find the offending extension(s) and speed up your Chrome. Overall, only install necessary extensions and delete or disable ones you don’t use.
Update Your Chrome
Google developers regularly release Chrome updates that fix bugs, improve performance, and add features. To get the best performance out of Google Chrome, be sure to keep your browser updated to the latest version.
